Covid-19 Spring Booster – Who is Eligible

COVID-19 is more serious in older people and those with a weakened immune system. Protection from the vaccine may be lower and may decline more quickly in these people.

For this reason, people aged 75 years and over, those in care homes and those aged 12 years and over with a weakened immune system are being offered the spring booster.

This spring booster is being offered as a precaution to those at extremely high risk, most of whom received their first booster around 6 months ago. If the number of infections increases over the summer, this booster should help to reduce your risk of being admitted to hospital with COVID-19.

At Acklam Medical Centre we are offering the Covid-19 spring booster to not just our patients that fit this category but to anyone who is eligible

Clinics will be held on a Thursday at Acklam Medical Centre between 2-6pm

We have never been closed during the pandemic and continue to work extremely hard.

We have offered face to face appointments since the start of the pandemic and continue to do so. To keep our patients and our team safe all face to face appointments with the GP are triaged by a GP

We offer all face to face, telephone consultation, eConsults and video consultation.  All appointments types for GP consultations are triaged and agreed with a GP and face to face to appointments will be based on a clinical need and patient and our team safety.

Thank you for working with us to keep you safe.

With the continued pressure on all of us due to COVID, you will understand that Practice staff are challenged to meet our patients’ demands.

All our staff want to provide the best possible care. With the insistent pressure, we sometimes cannot meet your specific wishes immediately.  As a result, we are seeing an increasing number of incidents when patients behave unreasonably towards our staff, causing considerable distress.  Any verbal or physical abuse, aggressive, offensive, intimidating, or disrespectful behavior towards our staff will not be tolerated. We will follow our Zero Tolerance Policy and act when patients behave inappropriately.

Electronic Prescription Service

We have recently started The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). It gives you the chance to change how we send your prescription to the place you choose to get your medicines from.

If you collect your repeat prescriptions from the practice you will not have to visit the  practice to pick up your paper prescription. Instead, we will be able to send it electronically to the place you choose, saving you time.

Patient Access On Line:

Its your choice, if you wish to, you can now use the internet to book appointments with a GP, request repeat prescriptions and look at some aspects of your medical records.  Please ask reception for details.

The practice is required by the Government under the terms of the latest GP contract to allocate all patients a named accountable GP.

The practice does keep a record of your accountable GP. If you wish to be told the name of your Accountable GP, please ask the receptionists when you are next in the surgery.

We are trying to make communication easier for our patients. If you would like information in an alternative format, for example large print or easy read, or if you need help with communicating with us, for example because you use British Sign Language, please let us know. You can call us on 01642 247029.

Care Quality Commission

Our overall rating has been published as Good in all areas.

Help us to help you

The Partners have asked the receptionists to ask you to tell them a little about the problem when you call to make an appointment. We are trying to direct you to the person who would be most suitable to help you with your problem. Of course you do not have to do this but it really would help us to help you.

Our practice is collaborating with NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) who is providing NHS numbers for those patients that may be suitable for electronic repeat dispensing prescriptions. The information is obtained from NHS prescriptions submitted to the NHSBSA. A member of our clinical team will contact these patients soon to explain the benefits of this service.’

Text Reminders (MJOG)

We have introduced a new messaging system allowing patients to receive appointment reminders and messages relating to your personal medical care direct to your mobile phone . This includes invitations to specialist clinics ( such as influenza vaccinations clinics etc )

If you would like to  register for this service please contact  the practice to give consent .

Veteran Accredited

We are a  Veteran accredited practice. Dr L Green is the Veteran Lead.

We would like more patients to use this service to reduce the demand on the telephone system so that those who cannot go online have improved phone access. See the explanation lower down on this page and use the link below.

We are conscious that some patients registered at Newlands Medical Centre may be affected by current events in Afghanistan.  Newlands Medical Centre is accredited by the Royal College of General Practitioners as one which specialises in the care of military veterans and their families. All the team have been trained in the care of military veterans and their families. If recent events have affected you and you wish to seek help, please come forward.

Thank you very much for your co-operation.
